How Does the Cadillac Hands Free Driving System Work?

In certain driving conditions, Cadillac Super Cruise allows you to enjoy hands-free driving. This innovative system works with Adaptive Cruise Control to scan for the right driving conditions. Using in-car cameras, radar sensors, and GPS, Super Cruise detects when you’re driving attentively on a limited-access freeway, and that road conditions are stable. Additionally, the Super Cruise package includes 3 years of OnStar® for functionality support.

Cadillac Hands-Free Driving Settings

To use Cadillac Super Cruise hands-free driving functions, first make sure the following features are set as follows:

• Adaptive Cruise Control Is: ON
• Forward Collision System Set To: ALERT AND BRAKE
• Teen Driver is: OFF

How to Activate Cadillac Super Cruise

After you’ve set other features to allow Super Cruise to start, follow these simple steps to get started:

1. Press the Adaptive Cruise Control button on the steering wheel to turn on Super Cruise.
2. You’ll see the cruise control symbol on the instrument cluster light up WHITE. If adaptive cruise control is already set, the symbol will display GREEN with the preset speed.
3. The system automatically scans for and identifies situations when it’s safe to use. If Super Cruise detects that you’re on a limited-access freeway, paying attention, lane markings are visible, and there are no system faults, the Super Cruise dash icon will illuminate in WHITE.
4. To engage Super Cruise when the icon is lit up, press the Super Cruise button on the steering wheel. When the system is engaged, the light will change to GREEN, indicating that Super Cruise is now steering your vehicle. At this point, it’s safe to take your hands off the wheel.
5. To disengage Super Cruise, press the steering wheel button again or press the brake pedal.

When Not to Use Cadillac Super Cruise

In some situations, retaining manual control is necessary for your safety on any road:

• If you are not separated from oncoming traffic
• If driving conditions are unusual, difficult, or uncertain
• In limited-visibility circumstances and when lane markings are hard to see
• While you’re in a tunnel or driving through construction zones
• If road conditions are slippery or unstable due to rain, sleet, snow, or ice
• While in a freeway exit lane
• While towing a trailer
